America's Li'l Helpers

I was listening to "All Things Considered" a little while ago this afternoon, and heard retired Army General Robert Scales tell NPR's Michele Norris that Kuwait is "America's aircraft carrier." In all fairness to the General, he was saying this in the larger context of arguing that America should have a more collaborative and friendly foreign policy, one that is more mindful of the needs of our allies...but I had to laugh at the way he worded it. It's so indicative of the casual American Exceptionalism used constantly, everywhere...

So, how about some new national slogans in this vein? Like, "Canada: America's Cup Holder" or "Ecuador: America's Desk Lamp." Remember, we're Americans. Like Adam in the Garden of Eden, it falls to us to name everything we see, with the understanding that it is All For Us.
